Premature Ovarian Failure-The Western Definition

Premature Ovarian Failure (POF), also referred to as Primary Ovarian Insufficiency (POI), and Premature Menopause, is defined as a decline and stop in the normal functioning of a woman’s ovaries before the age of 40. Signs and symptoms of POF may include irregular menses, amenorrhea (completely stopped periods), vaginal dryness, hot flashes, painful intercourse, and infertility. Approximately 1-4% (250,000) adult women under the age of 40 in the United States are diagnosed with POF.

Acupuncture, Stress and Reproductive Function

By Marc Sklar, LAc, DA (RI), FABORM
Clinical Director of Reproductive Wellness

Acupuncture originated centuries ago and is the means by which practitioners of Oriental Medicine tap into the vascular systems that enlivens and runs through each person. There are classical entry points (acu-points) along these lines called meridians. The stimulation of a combination of exact points using ultra fine filaments will cause the body to correct the flow of blood and oxygen, sometimes called Qi. Classic texts describe 365 points located on meridians that are mapped onto the surface of the body.

Acupuncture & Women’s Health: A Summary of Research and Support for Oriental Medicine

Introduction

Acupuncture originated in China more than 2,000 years ago, making it one of the oldest and most commonly used medical procedures in the world. Overall, acupuncture is a time-tested, safe, natural, and drug-free alternative that can provide immediate relief and long-lasting benefits, and can work well along with Western medicine, or on its own. Relatively few complications from the use of acupuncture have been reported to the FDA in light of the millions of people treated each year.

These guidelines are based on Traditional Chinese medicinal principles as well as modern medical research. The key is to eat sensibly and in moderation and to simplify life in order to achieve balance and health. These guidelines are suggested for both men and women.
