Natural Hormone Regulation

I would like some suggestions for natural hormone regulation (boosting).  We struggled to conceive our second child for over two years: I had regular cycles but just not conceiving, then found my estrogen was low and my testerone was EXTREMELY low, both of which were affecting my moods, sleep, mental focus, and sexual desire.  We finally find a doctor to help with the hormones instead of recommending colmide.  She just had us use an estrogen patch with bioidentical human estrogen at the lowest dose.  After one month we were pregnant.  Now, the baby is 3 months old and we checked the hormones again and we have the same problem, so I would like some advice on how to help regulate these hormones naturally, especially the testerone (which really does have any effect on my sleep and sexual desire).  I am tired alot (though I do recognize that I have a big growing baby to breastfeed/cosleep and an active 5 year old to keep up with).  We can't supplement testerone because of the potential affects on another child (which we hope to try again soon).

What are the best ways to help regulate hormones?

Thanks

Low testosterone

Hi Nurturing_Naturally,

Thanks for your question. Testosterone is produced by the adrenals and the ovaries. It could be that your adrenals or your adrenal-ovarian axis needs some attention. Sleep deprivation can contribute to adrenal exhaustion and vice versa. The pill can also suppress ovarian testosterone production. It sounds to me that your body needs to rest, stock up on nutrients (pregnancy and breastfeeding are very taxing on the body) and energy. Ensure that you are eating a balanced healthy diet with plenty of protein and good fats (two key macro nutrients for hormone production), supplement with a good quality multivitamin, sarsaparilla and licorice are great adrenal tonics as is ginseng and many other herbs, use sleep hygiene to improve your sleeping patterns. You can find out more about it here: http://www.natural-fertility-prescription.com/missing-link-sleep-fertility/. It takes a minimum of three months for a hormonal imbalance to correct itself. Everything that you eat, drink, get exposed to etc... between now and the next three months will be reflected in your hormone levels.

I would love to help you further and do a proper fertility analysis for you if you are interested.

Feel free to concat me if you have any further questions.

Iva :)

Some Helpful Hormone Tips...

Nurturing Naturally,
It seems like Iva really knows the specifics of getting your hormones ready for reproduction. Just thought I would send an encouraging note of agreement to the necessity of sleep for proper hormonal patterns, and a few more general tidbits. Here are some other things natural ways to heal the hormones:

-Bright sunshine during the day
-Super dark during the night--(Try not to allow cracks of light from streetlights, etc, also remove electric clocks, cell phones)

-Ray Peat, PhD, has a few books on natural hormone regulation, and he swears by Coconut Oil...eat it and use it for lotion. (Quality saturated fats are needed to create hormones).

After that, healthy lifestyle promotes healthy hormones:
-Keeping stress low
-Eating unprocessed whole foods
-Drinking plenty of water
-Avoiding chemicals products in the home

Hope you find what you need...
