Hypnosis
One Little Known Secret for Successful Labor
Submitted by Natural Baby Pros on Jan 29, 2010
Whether it’s called visualization, mental imagery, hypnosis, or autogenic conditioning, research for nearly a century has proven that “if you’ve been there in the mind, you’ll go there in the body.” Imagery in one form or anther has been used throughout history to cure disease, enhance performance, and improve state of mind. It seems, however, that employing the power of mental imagery for pregnancy often leaves today’s pregnant women in the dark.

Hypnosis for Childbirth: What Is It -- And Does It Work?
Submitted by Natural Baby Pros on Dec 05, 2009Mention the words “labor and delivery” to an expectant mom in her last trimester, and chances are good that her heart will begin to race and her mind flood with concern -- and in some cases, panic. She knows that the day is coming when a force much bigger than herself will take over and her body will govern itself completely.
For some women, birth is a very fearful event. For “hypnomoms,” it is merely a challenge.
What is hypnosis, anyway?
Joyful Birthing……Using Hypnobabies
Submitted by Natural Baby Pros on Dec 05, 2009Birthing: The Choices are YOURS!
Submitted by Natural Baby Pros on Dec 05, 2009There is no more vulnerable time in a woman’s life than when she is pregnant and concerned for herself and her unborn baby. The health and safety of mom and baby loom large in her mind, and most expectant mothers read everything they can get their hands on physically; every pregnancy book and magazine to be found. They also peruse pregnancy and childbirth related websites, and many moms watch reality TV birth shows avidly, absorbing the messages, good and bad that they see and hear. Rarely do they come across the information that can serve them the most clearly and positively as they prepare for their baby’s day of birth; the most important message of all.
Women and Stress
Submitted by Natural Baby Pros on Nov 30, 2009by Jennifer Bessel, Ph.D.
Women have to cope with many stressors on a daily basis. Women must balance work and family, cope with aging parents and handle interpersonal conflicts. As stressors build up, the physiological effects of stress can chip away at the body and cause physical illness and emotional distress.
Stress can affect us in many ways ranging from fatigue and relational problems to medical complications. It is important to know how to recognize stress before levels get too high and to then take action to handle it in healthy ways. Being able to control stress is a learned behavior, and stress can be effectively managed by taking small steps each day.
What is Hypnosis?
Submitted by Natural Baby Pros on Nov 30, 2009Hypnosis involves learning how to use your mind and thoughts in order to manage emotional distress (anxiety, stress) or to change certain habits or behaviors (negative thinking).
Hypnosis is a learned skill and can often, but does not always have to include relaxation. It is a participatory process and a collaboration between you and your therapist. Working with a licensed therapist who is also trained in hypnosis can help you to reach your goals and address underlying barriers to change.
Myths of Hypnosis
“I might get stuck”
You cannot get stuck in hypnosis and you can open your eyes and be alert at any time you need to.
Coping with Infertility
Submitted by Natural Baby Pros on Nov 30, 2009Infertility is a stressful state. If you are struggling with infertility, stress creates a vicious circle. You get stressed because you can’t conceive, which makes you more stressed, which makes it even harder to conceive. Fertility treatments are stressful too. This cycle can result in feeling out of control. Feeling out of control of your emotions, your thoughts, and your body is common when coping with infertility.
Coping Tools:
Having many tools to cope with the feelings and stress is an important part of getting through this experience.

Choosing Euphoric Birth
Submitted by Natural Baby Pros on Nov 08, 2009(as printed in Rogue Valley Parent, Mar. 2008)
For an ecstatic minute we watched as tufts of soft golden baby hair undulated in the warm water, then mom reached down to receive her new baby, birthed into her mother’s hands with a silent whoosh. …. A pink quiet moment of joy, mom and dad holding their 11 pound (!) baby girl, strong and alert from the start.
After five hours of active labor, free of distress or anxiety, free of any hard pushing, free of intervention… this mother’s description was “it just felt wonderful… it felt so good…. I just loved that.”
