Please call your Senators today and ask them to take the lead in introducing a BILL to provide Medicaid payment of Certified Professional Midwife services.

Have you ever considered using the services of a midwife and/or doula?
Submitted by Natural Baby Pros on Nov 09, 2009By: Christine Goldman, MA, CD, CPD, CBE
I have found that these services go hand in hand, complimenting each other every step of the pregnancy way. Think about this - from the very start you want the very best for your unborn baby. You choose a midwife because you want more personal medical care during your pregnancy--someone to guide you, and listen to you in hopes of a more natural or hands-on approach. You choose a doula during your pregnancy because your want more personalized, hands-on care and information along the way--someone you can call for comfort measures and support when you have particular questions in between your midwife visits.

Choosing Euphoric Birth
Submitted by Natural Baby Pros on Nov 08, 2009(as printed in Rogue Valley Parent, Mar. 2008)
For an ecstatic minute we watched as tufts of soft golden baby hair undulated in the warm water, then mom reached down to receive her new baby, birthed into her mother’s hands with a silent whoosh. …. A pink quiet moment of joy, mom and dad holding their 11 pound (!) baby girl, strong and alert from the start.
After five hours of active labor, free of distress or anxiety, free of any hard pushing, free of intervention… this mother’s description was “it just felt wonderful… it felt so good…. I just loved that.”

About Midwives
Submitted by Natural Baby Pros on Nov 06, 2009What is a Midwife?
Long ago, in times that were almost lost to American culture, midwives attended the majority of births and cared for the mother and baby during the process. Also known as baby catchers, midwives are slowly making their way back into popularity in the United States as more women are choosing to birth with a midwife instead of an obstetric doctor. In many European countries, midwives are the primary care providers in around 70% of all pregnancies and births. Doctors are only called upon when a woman is considered high-risk due to such complications as high blood pressure, diabetes, or the need for emergency cesarean section.
