Reproductive Wellness will be holding its annual San Diego Fertility Expo on Saturday, October 16th at the Great Hall at UCSD from 11:30-4:30. The expo will allow anyone interested in starting their family to speak with top fertility specialists in San Diego! Brenda Strong, an expert in Fertility Yoga, will be speaking about the benefits of yoga movement, and offering a free 60 minute class at the event to those who would like to participate. Consultations will be given by physicians & practitioners specializing in infertility issues from all over Southern California.

We have been getting a lot of practitioners interested in being our "Practitioner in the Spotlight,", and in an effort to make our process for choosing those who we are spotlighting a bit easier, we have come up with something fun and new - for both providers and members!

AMNESTY INTERNATIONAL: Country's Highest C-Section Rate Underscores Need for National Obstetric Guidelines

"More than two women die every day in the USA from complications of pregnancy and childbirth.  Approximately half of these deaths could be prevented if maternal health care were available, accessible and of good quality for all women in the USA."  Amnesty International, Deadly Delivery: The Maternal Health Care Crisis in the USA

The National Center for Health Statistics reported that the Caesarean rate reached 32 percent in 2007, the highest rate ever. C-sections have become the most common operation in American hospitals.  As c-section rates have increased, the maternal mortality ratios have also risen significantly.  The risk of death following c-sections is three times higher than for vaginal births, and c-sections also increase risks in future pregnancies...

The Amnesty International report (Deadly Delivery: The Maternal Health Care Crisis in the USA) finds that many women are not sufficiently informed about the risks of medical interventions and procedures like c-sections or given the opportunity to actively participate in care decisions...

Our First Annual Your Natural Baby Fair took place on Sunday, May 23rd, 2010.  We had some amazing vendors, speakers, kids' entertainment, raffle prizes, and lots more for the trying, expecting, and new familes in San Diego, and for practitioners and professionals in the pregnancy and baby industry.  Thank you to everyone who came and made the event the success that it was!  We would also like to send a special Thank You to all our volunteers who came and worked hard before and during the event despite the cold and wind; your support is so much appreciated.
